Jacques the Snowman! - Free Pattern


Today I am sharing an easy pattern for an adorable Christmas snowman.

Introducing... Jacques!


For this crochet pattern, I have used UK terminology.

Stitches used:

  • Magic Ring
  • dc - Double Crochet
  • increase - Two Double Crochet in same space
  • decrease - Double Crochet two together
  • htr - Half Treble Crochet
  • trc - Treble Crochet
  • tr2tog - Treble Crochet two together


You will need:

  • 4mm crochet hook
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn - white, orange, light teal
  • Buttons
  • Darning needle/yarn needle
  • Embroidery cotton in white and black
  • Pom-poms - I made my own using a fork! (I can post a tutorial if that is something you would like to see - let me know in the comments below!)
  • Stitch markers to help you keep track
  • Stuffing

Pattern: 

Body

Using white yarn and a 4mm crochet hook: 

Round 1 - 6dc into magic ring (6)
Round 2 - increase in each stitch (12)
Round 3 - (1dc, increase) x 6 (18)
Round 4 - (2dc, increase) x 6 (24)
Round 5 - (3dc, increase) x 6 (30)
Round 6 - (4dc, increase) x 6 (36)
Round 7 - (5dc, increase) x 6 (42)
Round 9 - (6dc, increase) x 6 (48)
Round 10-14 - dc in each stitch (48)
Round 15 - (6dc, decrease) x 6 (42)
Round 16 - (5dc, decrease) x 6 (36)
Round 17 - (4dc, decrease) x 6 (30)
Round 18 - (3dc, decrease) x 6 (24)
Round 19 - (2dc, decrease) x 6 (18)

Sew three buttons onto the body. I chose to have the buttons in different sizes, but this step is completely up to you!
Stuff the body.

Round 20 - (dc, decrease) x 6 (12)
Round 21 - decrease in each stitch (6)

Tie off.

Head

Using white yarn and a 4mm crochet hook: 

Round 1 - 6dc into magic ring (6)
Round 2 - increase in each stitch (12)
Round 3 - (dc, increase) x 6 (18)

Round 4 - (2dc, increase) x 6 (24)
Round 5 - (3dc, increase) x 6 (30)
Round 6 - (4dc, increase) x 6 (36)
Round 7-12 - dc in each stitch (36)
Round 13 - (4dc, decrease) x 6 (30)
Round 14 - (3dc, decrease) x 6 (24)
Round 15 - (2dc, decrease) x 6 (18)

Sew two buttons on as eyes.
Stitch mouth using embroidery cotton. 

Round 16 - (dc, decrease) x 6 (12)
Round 17 - decrease in each stitch (6)

Tie off leaving a long tail so the head can be attached to the body. 

Nose

Using orange yarn and a 3.5mm crochet hook:

Round 1 - ch2
Round 2 - in second chain from hook, 4dc (4)
Round 3-4 - dc in each stitch (4)
Round 5 - increase in each stitch (8)

Stuff ENDS into nose and attach to the head just between the eyes. The nose is very small and doesn't need to be filled with stuffing. 

Hat

Using light teal yarn and a 4mm crochet hook:

Round 1 - 6dc into magic ring (6)
Round 2 - increase in each stitch (12)
Round 3 - (1dc, increase) x 6 (18)
Round 4 - (2dc, increase) x 6 (24)
Round 5 - (3dc, increase) x 6 (30)
Round 6 - (4dc, increase) x 6 (36)
Round 7 - (5dc, increase) x 6 (42)
Round 8 - (4dc, decrease) x 6 (30)
Round 9 - htr, 2trc, tr2tog, (3trc, tr2tog) x 5, 4trc, htr (29)

Tie off and sew in ends. 
Make a pom-pom in a contrasting colour and attach to the top. 

Scarf

Using orange yarn and a 4mm crochet hook:

Row 1 - ch6
Row 2 - dc in second chain from hook, 5dc
Row 3 - ch1, turn, 4dc
Row 4-54 - repeat Row 3

Tie off and sew in ends. 
Tie contrasting colour tassels to each end of the scarf.

Voila! You have made your very own Jacques!
